If we see causes that looks like RHD, we ask the next animal passing to be:
- double bagged,
- outside bag F10ed with yourself F10ed,
- add another bag,
- placed in a styrofoam cooler with Ice Bricks,
- kept cool
- (if state vet say keep in the redrigerator, please do NOT put in your home fridge. Place with icebricks in a cooler – styrofoam coolers can be asked at your local vet, or bought.
- f10 your hands before taking out the Icebricks for a change, have a tub with F10 solution ready and insert there for 30mins, before taking out and placing in your Freezer for the next session
- Get the sample to your State Vet asap. (Pet owners, ask your local vet where and what) Take your icebricks out only when at the vet. Use at least 2 icebricks per kg, every 6 hrs. Statevets can be asked to colloect the samples during weekdays, and you need to keep them cooled till the next weekday, during a weekend.
- they will do their own necropsy, and take tissue samples from 3-4 different organs, inc liver, lungs, spleen, and prepare it safely to send away to Onderstepoort or subsequent place for PCR testing.
When burrying others:
- Please get agricultural lime first. Hold some in reserve if you can.
- Doublebag the bodies, add some lime in the bag,
- put lime at the bottom of the grave, which must be at least 1.5m deep, deeper if you have more bodies,
- add bodies, add lime to the sides and top,
- properly close up,
- sterilize yourself after, incl footbath, clothes to the F10 bin.
